Abstract The Runic Honor Society of Augustana College, Rock Island, Illinois, was founded in the spring of 1933 by a group of seven male students. The purpose of the society was to recognize academic achievement and service among Augustana students. Originally, membership was open only to men, but women were included in the society beginning in 1937. Charles John Sabbath was born 4 September 1930 in Muscatine, Iowa. He entered Augustana College in September 1950 as a sophomore transfer student from Muscatine Junior College. The Charles Sabbath papers date from 1949 to 1953 and measure 0.5 linear feet. The collection contains correspondence, registration materials, coursework, student life materials, and publications.

Sigma Pi Delta records

Abstract

The Sigma Pi Delta sorority, nicknamed the “Speeds”, was founded at Augustana College in 1908 by members of the S.P.D. Tennis Club. The Speeds gave up their charter from 1970 to 1980, but remain active on campus today. The Sigma Pi Delta records, 1908-2004 and undated, is organized into four series: Official records, 1924-2004 and undated; Sorority activities, 1927-2003 and undated; Pledging, 1981-2004; and Photographs and scrapbook, 1908-2003 and undated.

Abstract Flavius J. Sten was born in St. Helens, Oregon. He attended the Augustana Academy for high school until 1911, when he entered Augustana College. He was involved in many organizations during his college career, most notably the basketball program.
